I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. Fantastic game.

(+2)

No amount of praise would be enough for this masterpiece, the writing and everything else are perfect for me. This game is so creative and full of surprises, i didn't even expect the plot-twist. The tooltip is a must-read, it has a bunch of interesting informations and it kind of leads you to the first ending(I'm assuming it's the "good ending"). I feel so bad for our ghost boy, he deserves so much better 😭

啊啊啊画风怎能如此之萌🥰

Really really loved the writing, especially the little tooltip thingy with more insights. There is something so raw/nostalgic and bittersweet about them. ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE VIBES. Beautiful game!!

One of my all-time favorites! Love the story and the character design.

ughhh the writing was so beautiful!!!!! I was left at complete awe as I read those tooltip thingies gosh ts so poetic. Also Doe was so so cute. Wonderful game gang

I  love this one so much, you have no idea. The pacing, the suspense, the soundtracks and sounds that are so perfectly matches with everything that's going on, i love every single of it. I sincerely wish i could experience it for the first time, all over again. Short playthrough but just enough. Thank you for this  <33

(Spoiler) What if bro just killed the mc bcz he thought we knew about the identity swap or suspected we were looking into it that’s why he was looking nervous at the start of the game ;p

(+1)(-1)

NVM I GOT MA ANSWER FROM THE COMMENTS 🙏

(1 edit) (+2)

bcz the creator answered someone that jade killed the mc bcz they got close to something important which I suppose is a piece of evidence that’s all

AMAZING GAME TO THE ART CHARAS STORY N DIOLOG THE ENTIRE GAME TOOK ME LIKE AN HOURISH?? the game was amazing but it left me w a lot of questions like why did he kill the mc if he loved us and doe or kiss the mc corpse but other then that amazing. 10/10

Truee, all i wanna know if he truly loved us or not. But the way they just left it hanging probably for us to interpret it however we want.

(+1)

this is the funnest game i've found in a while, i love revenge plots

(+1)

Wow. I'm floored after that ending. I really wanted to more about Avery what made him tick etc.

Beautiful art. Chilling vibes. And the game actually ran fine for me in my browser.

🤍GREAT GAME🖤

(+1)

This is very well done!^^

Absolutely amazing story, super intriguing and super nice art work!

I liked where you could hover over certain words/phrases to know more information^^

only wished we got to know some more about the killer.

OMG OMG I FEEL SO LUCKY TO HAVE FOUND THIS GAME!??!? Literally everything made sense the farther I went (also becuz of the comments lol) but this is just so amazing. I played the first half at night and it actually gave me the chills so i decided to play the rest in the morning... THIS GAME WAS JUST SO BEAUTIFUL, especially with the justice ending hehe :)) I SHED TEARS

I forgot to mention THE ART!?!? ITS SO DELICIOUS

(+6)

Why did your killer kiss your corpse? And the narration hints he did love MC....but there's not a real explanation of why he killed. Like it hints he was jealous of (spoiler) but that's it. Also I wish we got Avery's POV. :(

(+2)

same !! I thought we would more of Avery's POV and our corpse/funeral

right

(+3)

I loved this game!! First of all, I loved the game mechanics. I love how you can hover on certain words, and that helps unveil the mystery. It really helped set this game apart from others I've played before. Second of all, I loved the story. I went to download this game not expecting much, maybe just a guy who fake-dated the MC just to get to the corpse of his beloved, like a weird necrophilic yandere or something, cause I saw the "kissed the corpse" warning. But when that scene played out, it was totally unexpected and I loved it. There were a lot of moments that felt very scary, especially in the beginning. It really unnerved me, but the ending i got was so sweet and I loved it ever since the other ghost came.

I didn’t expect to see the MC die in real time!! I expected to fully boot up a game as a ghost, and slowly reveal the reason for the MC’s death, so that really caught me off guard. This was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish, and I really liked the plot twist and how it reframed everything, and it didn’t feel unnecessary and everything clicked in my head and I hate the ex/bad friend, he’s just so diabolical. Also, I had a hunch that the masked person was Avery, but i only realized it a couple of scenes before it was revealed, so I got really scared. Anyways, I love the plot twists, and how you unveil the story little by little. It was a wonderful experience.

FUCKING HELL THIS WAS SO GOOD

(+1)

I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCHHH OMGMGMGSJFEKF. i can only get the other ending, i keep getting stuck with it even tho i've played it for like 3 times now, i love LOVE the art and the story (can someone help me get the other ending partially not one where i got the revenge one)

bro u should select forest when game asks you to choose between morgue forest and downtown and then u should select right, forward and right again. theeeen baaammmmm u have another choice when u turned ethans room then select it, its all you should do. BTW THIS ENDING MAKES ME CRY... (im sorry if its too late..)

(+1)

omg that was amazing, it made me cry at 2:00 AM. Just the way the story it's written is beautiful and really realistic, I loved the protagonist narration, and the way everything is described, just wow. Beautiful art too, and reaally compelling characters and story (Avery the goat). The ending of justice made me feel soo much emotions at once, I really loved it. Amazing game, really excited for future projects, this was amazing <3

i really really liked the games it is one of my favorites, i had the end 2 at first and did it like 3 or 4 times and never got the other ending (maybe im just dumb) but i figured it out after a while, and i have to say i cried at the end of ending 1 it was so sweet and i really love doe (ethan) <3

This game is so amazing, words cannot express how much I enjoyed it. The twist was crazy and the story had so much meaning and kept me hooked the whole time. only good things to say abt this game, I love it so much 💖

(+3)

holy cow i cried UNIRONICALLY I CRIED. this was such a great great game. absolutely beautiful. the writing, the soundtrack, the art. the suspense, the plot, THE TWIST IS CRAZYYYY. leaves such a bittersweet ending though. like yeah, obv no revival. very true, raw. no survival, but at least justice. but at the same time it doesnt change that mc and doe were stripped of everything they had by one awful bastard sucker mf. like its not supposed to be a gooood ending, but a conclusion to a story? not saying i dont like it, BUT ITS SO RAW AND IDK HURTS SM..... spoilers below!

i especially felt so...fucking sad when ethan's funeral was held. the poor guy. idk why its just. the way the writing did it. lowering his body. no one coming to his funeral. wtf did my poor guy do!!!!! someone mourn him!!!! this is heartbreaking. genuinely. I CRIEDDDDD. ethan is such a sweetie. i hope jude rots in hell disrespectfully <3333 idk how to explain everything i felt. the writing is brilliant. again this game hurt me, but oh what delicious pain that was. idk why, probably because of knowledge that ethan will never be brought back, mc will never be brought back, their bodies are cold, unfeeling, rotting and very much dead. and the fact that ethans body wasnt even searched for. because jude was his only fucking friend AND HE KILLED HIM. heartbreaking. my boy ethan deserved better. well, at least he and mc can have dates now. and fuck up judes life in prison. and much more. live...eh be dead? be a spirit?...laugh love ethan. fucking kill jude and also punch him in the face million times. god this game is phenomenal. I CRIED. UGH. this is so sad. the definition of bittersweet. masterpiece. wonderful. tysm. love.

(+4)

also avery the GOAT. THE GOATTTT.

(1 edit) (+2)

and as others said for how brilliant this game is, i really do wonder what were his intentios for killing the mc? spoilers below

there was a phantasm bit where it was written that he did love mc? but he'd pretend he didn't so he doesnt have to think about it? i wonder if it was because jude was wearing ethan's "mask" and it was more of a throwback to ethan?....
i think the reason he killed the mc is because she stayed up late and he was afraid she was snooping around? maybe he wanted to throw out the ids, but forgot about it because of adrenaline rush? also he did kiss the mc's corpse....yikes.

(+1)

god i cant expressenough  how much i loved this. THE TEARS!!! THE TEARS!!! loved it. never playing again. my heart is way too weak. its wonderful. amazing story. cant express enough the feeeeeelings it made me feel. the bittersweet tone. the endings. the justice ending. bro i want to cry because like. you cant bring doe's and mc's lives back. they're dead for sure. and their murderer was brought to justice, sure. but still. i think its because of how real the story is actually. the raw reality of cold blood murder, that some people just arent searched for sometimes. the ignorance of police. the tone, the atmosphere, THE MUSIC. the music added SO MUCH. SO MUCH. bless everyone who worked on this i hate you lovingly why did you make me go through such emotions/jjjjj
maybe im oversensitive but alas maybe im the target audience. god i love it sm.

(+2)

This is the first time I have ever left a comment on a visual novel. I know I just had to after completing both endings and was left absolutely stunned. I LOVED the plot twist at the ending, and thought it was very fitting for "Ethan."

Spoilers below:

Like I said, the plot twist made complete sense for Jude's character. He was clearly arrogant and could not stand to have others shining brighter than him. This was especially evident when we are left with a clue that Ethan was strangled because he had better academic marks than his "friend." Jude was manipulative and had an ego. Not only did he kill Ethan, but he also had taken over his life, and had even managed to date the girl he was interested in. It almost feels like as if he had done this on purpose just to show off to Ethan. Almost like a, "look at me, I'm now you, I have everything I ever wanted from you, and I'm even dating the girl you never had the chance to confess to." (damn, and remember that Ethan was able to see everything that Jude was doing so it's worse) I don't think that Jude ever loved MC at all. Apart from being the girl that Ethan liked, he showed absolute zero guilt and only showed any sort of emotions when HE felt like HE was going to get caught. He only ever cared about himself.

In conclusion,  Jude is stinky, and I wish I could fist fight him. Avery is the bestie we all wish for.

(+1)

you got this on point, this explanation makes a lot of sense, hope Jude fcking rots in hell

THE PLOT TWIST

I love this game so much, thank you for making it <

<3 not <

(+1)(-1)

This was definitely a peak game but i only got one of the endings where i end up setting jude's room on fire and he dies but i haven't gotten the second ending and my back hurts from sitting up all daywahhhh I LOVE THIS GAME THO!!!!!

(+1)(-1)

hiii spoilers below!

you gotta choose to go to the woods and choose the right directions! if i remember correctly its: right, forward and left? i think? it shows the text in the top left corner "seems like that was the right path"!!!

(1 edit) (+1)

when you go to forest the path is actually a puzzle, just skip it.

(+1)(-2)

one of the BEST  games ive played on this platform, it was truly moving and made me cry.

SPOILERS BELOW ON HOW TO GET ENDING 1

to get ending 1, you must go to the forest after the cemetery. When choosing the directions, choose Right forward right. If everytime you press the directions and get a '' this is the right way '' notification on your screen, its correct, if you dont, go back and choose another direction until it appears, you will find Doe's (aka Ethan's) body

(+4)

Fantastic and well-written :p I wish the motivations for killing the MC were expanded on, but that's my only complaint! The rest of the gameplay (hints for what choices you make), story, and art is amazing

(+1)

this was such a peak game... the plot twist for ending 2 surprised me... and ending one actually explained why "Ethan"/Jude asked the main character out!! overall, it's a very well written game!!

I adored this game. very tightly written and the mystery is interesting...plus ghost boy is so cute

(+3)

i got ending two first and what caught me off guard was the identity theft, but when i got ending one ? WHAT CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD WAS WHEN ETHAN TOLD US HE LIKED US OHHH MY SHAYLA !! my shayla..

(-1)

this game is everything it's beautiful, it's story packed the art is amazing, there's 2 separate endings, I think I got both they're such a good written characters if you're here for, like a horror, slash romance thing that comes later on it's a really good game, though, and would recommend

That was a beautiful game :)

(1 edit) (+2)

This is a fantastic game! I really like the premise, and aside from just downright sounding and looking great, the visuals and sound set up the atmosphere well. The sound in particular - the ambient noises and the music - really creates an immersive story. Especially in the more tense or frightening moments as the way the music picked up really had me feeling the tension and unease.

SPOILERS BELOW:

I also liked how the choices sneakily built up potential outcomes. For example: I didn't think much of the forest option at first - it felt like a pretty normal decision. It's nearby the cemetery, so of course the characters would think to go there to walk and clear their heads as an option before going to the morgue - no other particular reason that would be an option, right?

And then as I was choosing options for where to go within the forest, and the characters started expressing feelings of unease, I remembered one of the phantasm texts had revealed something about the fate of Doe's (or should I say Ethan's?) body, and I realized what that meant could happen and the relevance of the path directions. Of course, that's just my experience, so I don't know if that was more obvious to others right off the bat, but I like how that kind of snuck up on me and had me going "wait a minute, didn't that-? ... oh no."

Also, on that note, can I just say I love the phantasm bits? Avery being referred to as an "evil sneaky guy" in a conversation and that being referenced later on in a phantasm immediately told me who it was lurking around Jude's room (prompting me to put the IDs down, as I knew Avery could make use of them). They really are narratively important, and the added information influenced my decisions, so I liked their inclusion a lot. Really great stuff.

And similarly - the indicators after decisions for the main character's emotional state and being able to find the right set of directions in the forest to find Ethan's body were extremely useful. Sometimes visual novels can leave you to flounder a little bit as you wonder what different choices you could make to get a different outcome and what significance they hold. Or sometimes they make it obvious in a way that can come across as a little inelegant (and that obviousness isn't always bad, but it can ruin a sense of mystery which is what this game is going for). I feel like this game struck a great balance there, carefully guiding and influencing the player's choices without straight up telling you, letting you figure out what they mean as you go.

I guess this is the only negative thing I have to say, that I also saw a couple other reviewers comment on: I do think the game lacked a bit more explanation as to what Jude's motive was. I had been wondering that since the beginning when he killed the main character - why? The simple explanation of him being envious of Ethan (and then offing the MC to cover up what he did) really didn't feel like it added up - I felt like there could've potentially been more there personally, maybe more elaboration of his perspective to emphasize why he did it. I could've been reading too much into it though. It doesn't detract from the game's best points at all, so it's more of a minor, inconsequential thing that bugged me, to be honest.

Like I said, a fantastic game in general, with so many great elements! Love when I find a good visual novel like this that really pulls me in with its story and impresses me. Great work! :)

This is so cool! I love the way the music is utilized! This is so so cool

(+1)

Waow...I really found myself drawn in and intrigued by this! The atmosphere building is one of the best things about this game, it's just so. Ough. It's so perfectly liminal and eerie and spooky, especially the audio. It just FEELS like that's what it would feel like to be a ghost. Sort of speaking of that, the only thing that rivals the atmosphere is the WRITING, my godddddd. Especially how you kept it more straightforward in the textbox but really got into it all poetic with the inspect feature, I liked that alot! It really let the writing shine in those little snippets. Also was great for foreshadowing/teasing imminent reveals. Another scene that really, and I mean REALLY gripped me, was the initial death and the first few moments as a ghost. Idk man I just FELT that. It was so visceral but also just. A nauseating sort of mundane feeling. Like rotting. Which is apt. Very apt. TOTAL side note but not too long before playing this game, unrelated, I hadn't even known of it's existence at this point, I had a dream where I was shot in the head so. Similar situation to MC and man. Idk man you just described it so perfectly. Sorry if that little tidbit was a lil disturbing to read but, I just wanted to really convey how much the writing there meant to me. Well my gushing over the writing and atmosphere aside, the general story of it while nothing revolutionary just somehow drew me in instantly. Like man when I tell you I was HOOKED. That and I find the characters feel very realistically written. Like yeah that's how a person would react in such a situation. Idk how to describe it

(+3)

I love everything about this game. I want to give major props to everyone who worked on any part of it because it is all spectacular. The soundtrack. the art style, the writing. I was fully immersed in the story. The tooltip feature is an incredible method of storytelling; it provides us with information the MC would not be able to learn naturally without it breaking the flow of the narrative.

SPOILERS FROM HERE ON

I was not expecting the plot twist. It did linger in the back of my mind that Ethan and Jude looked extremely similar, but I thought it was just for realism. I do wish we got to learn more about Jude, his mindset, as well as why exactly he started becoming more antsy as the days went by. What was he so afraid of, that was not Jude or the MC? Just getting caught in general? I would have liked a clearer explanation of that. There are other things I would have liked to learn about too, such as MC's body, Avery in the aftermath, and Ethan's history with his sister, but I can understand wanting a project to be concise and impactful, which sometimes requires leaving things out. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed what was left in. I'm sure I have more to say that I'm forgetting, but I'll end it here. Thank you for sharing this incredible piece of work with us. If you are planning to create more in the future, I will fully support you and wait eagerly.

This game is technically, visually and musically excellent. The resources used — Elegant GUI, the Inline Tooltips, the Shaders, etc — are all not haphazardly thrown together but thoughtfully and elegantly deployed with an obvious measure of confidence and competence. The background images are kind of generic for the medium, but have been sufficiently stylized to match the intended character of the VN.

(I also immensely appreciate all the QoL, the 'this action will have consequences'-style the pop-up notifications, cluing the player into the anger–reason axis that affects the ending. This was made with a lot of consideration for UX and that means a lot. I don't like having to dig into a VN's scripts to figure out what I should be doing.)

The soundtrack is a banger, becoming intense when it needs to be, but most of the time it needs to be elegiac, because this is an extremely elegiac game. With how polished these tracks are, I honestly can't believe these were all finished up in a month! I thought before double-checking that these songs were another free resource. The murder scene in particular has a great beat. The scripting is also technically proficient, making the most out of a little to keep the screen busy and maintain appropriate emotional timbre.

The script is also really well-polished — almost immaculately edited, which is rarer for a VN than it should be, and I can tell it was written by someone who loves language. As for the writing itself, this is directed at the devs and not other prospective players so I'll put this behind spoilers:

The central conceit of this story rules. Haunting your murderer is a fun idea! A cute murder mystery/love story between the real Ethan and the MC as ghosts is a really cute idea, and I love the notion that, by getting to ask out the MC in the Justice ending, Ethan might cross over? Whereas the MC in the Revenge ending will always walk the earth, tethered by her now-unresolvable regrets (I'm just gonna use female pronouns here because I was a female playing the game). And the twist was great! I understood at the end why Jude and Ethan's designs closely resembled each other, which had been shaping up to be a criticism.

Where I ended up feeling unfulfilled a little was feeling the narrative led me down a garden path with Jude. Now: I can understand that Jude coveted Ethan's life and perception of academic excellence and murdered him for it, and then murdered the MC because she got too close to evidence of Jude's crimes. But there's some ostensible red herrings with Ethan having "discovered more about Ashenville than was taught in school" that don't seem to go anywhere, and other school IDs besides his own and Ethan's that Jude is noted to have stashed away in the morgue. Other victims?

It feels to me almost like more world-building had been composed for the narrative than the narrative actually needed, and so most of it was cut, but there's certain vestiges retained in the story? But altogether it just feels like Jude's final motivations are much too petty for how he was characterized throughout, and how guilt-ridden and emotionally traumatized he seems to be over the actions he committed.

(For context: I had theorized while playing that Jude was being menaced by some demonic entity, and had been forced to kill people as blood sacrifices to said entity, similar to something in the old indie comic Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, and that he was seeing that demon-thing behind the MC and Ethan.)

I also just, like... don't know why Jude can see ghosts at all. Shouldn't he, like... not be able to do that? It's something that's not really explored by the narrative and maybe "less is more" is the right authorial attitude here but I would have liked to know more about this. Does murdering someone in this universe just make you perpetually able to see their ghosts? Is Jude some kind of medium, and is this why he's crazy? There's a lot here, and I would have liked seeing it addressed.

Some other quibbles:

• The sting that plays in the title screen is very nice, but I wish there was a longer, looping track, because reading the "About" page in silence is weird.

• I would have liked a Sound Test to sample all the tracks without having to dig through the game's directory, because these songs really are that good.

• The forest path is intuitive enough once you try all options, but left me feeling like I should have been able to know the correct route before getting there.

Anyway! It's a great time and you all should be proud. Thank you for making this!

(2 edits) (+3)

This comment just about sums up my thoughts. I don't have many new points to add since this comment says it all already, but I wanted to say something anyways to express my support and admiration for this game.

I highly enjoyed the experience of playing it, especially because I sometimes like to voice non-voiced games for myself while I'm playing them, and Myosotis was among my favorite to read--both for the text itself but also the emotions it made me feel while voicing the lines. I felt for all of the characters--particularly for the MC, given what happens to them.

LIGHT SPOILERS BELOW:

As penelopticon has already put very eloquently, there is a lot to admire in this game but also a good number of things I would consider flaws or caused me to feel a bit disappointed and unsatisfied--with the biggest of them being a bunch of tiny unaddressed story points that ultimately build up into a sensation of "Okay but why?" or "Really? That's it? That's why?" that I just couldn't ignore. I will admit to feeling like the ending was rushed with a good number of details just never addressed. Personally, the one I found most unsatisfying one was the aftermath for MC in general; their body is seemingly never recovered and their death is hardly ever mentioned. I understand if the story was never really meant to be about about them, but I found it difficult to suspend my disbelief given that there is a whole corpse rotting in a cabinet as well as disheartening to feel like they were swept under the rug--especially given how MC themselves can feel incredibly disregarded or made to feel insignificant about their own death.

(By the by, penelopticon, I also theorized that Jude's whole deal was something like you described; I was so ready for him to be bound to some demonic entity or something like that and paying an incredibly high blood price for a desperate wish or something other LOL I was like "oh god watch this be something crazy, i've seen enough monkey paws go wrong". Unrelated, but I will say that I am mildly proud for quickly realizing what the deal was with Jude and Ethan when I saw how similar they looked to each other.)

SPOILERS END

That said, it is understandable if some things had to go in order to make deadlines or to make for a tighter, more concise story. Perhaps there simply wasn't time or space to get into all of that. Regardless, the presentation, writing and editing, and soundtrack definitely still shine a lot and Myosotis is a title that will stay with me for a while, much like one Very Sweet Not John Doe <3

Nice visual novel.

amazing

(1 edit) (+2)

The game wouldve sent shivers down my spine if not for the bomb ass soundtrack, i need it on spotify. The two endings were perfect, but i wish we (SPOILER WARNING FROM HEREEE) got the motivations on why jude murdered the mc, ethan, and possibly others.

SPOILERS HEREEEE We did get quick lines that stated Jude killed Ethan because of academic jealousy, whereas MC was because they were getting too close to the truth. But yes, I would have liked to understand Jude's mindset more.

HUHH. Ethan was portrayed as such a logical character to me, i thought his motives would be more complex..THANK U FOR THE REPLY THOUGHH

(+1)

Interesting! I saw him as an arrogant character, so the jealousy made total sense to me!
